Most beekeepers buy a cotton suit first and then buy this one after their second July inspection. Three separate layers of mesh sit apart from each other. Air moves through the gap, and a sting landing on the outside has more distance to cross than it can manage.
The hood is a fencing style veil. It unzips, so you can wash the suit properly and pack it flat.
This is a full suit with legs. If you keep one or two hives in a garden and want something quicker to pull on, the three layer jacket covers you to the waist for around half the price.
